Below is information on how OAB members can improve the safety of their workers (including the 9 key safety program parameters), along with information on the OAB's workers' compensation group rating plan. This plan allows OAB member stations to receive significant discounts on their workers' comp premiums.
OAB's Workers' Compensation Group Rating Plan
Workers’ compensation helps protect employers from the financial shock of costly workplace accidents by providing compensation and payment for medical care to employees who are injured on the job. Ohio law requires all employers with one or more employees to carry workers’ compensation coverage. Independent contractors and sub-contractors also must obtain coverage for their employees. In most states, this insurance is provided by private insurance companies. However, in Ohio the insurance is provided through the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC).
Group rating allows employers who are substantially similar in industry to group together to potentially achieve lower premium rates than they could otherwise achieve as individual employers. Currently over 95,000 Ohio employers are participating in different types of group rating.
Trade organizations such as the Ohio Association of Broadcasters are allowed to sponsor these group rating programs. OAB offers this group rating service through CareWorks Consultants, Inc. (formerly Compensation Consultants Inc.). This enables OAB members to save anywhere from the BWC maximum discount to a smaller percentage for companies with claims.
For more information on the plan, please contact the OAB at oab@oab.org or 866-OAB-5794.
