In 2003, the FCC adopted new equal employment opportunity (EEO) rules that apply to commercial and non-commercial broadcasters and multi-channel video programming distributors such as cable and satellite TV operators.
The rules have two main components. First, broadcasters are prohibited from engaging in employment discrimination and second, broadcasters are required to establish, maintain and carry out an EEO program.
To help our members understand these rules, the OAB’s FCC counsel of Brooks Pierce McLendon Humphrey & Leonard produced a guide describing the EEO rules and how to comply with the rules. This guide is distributed as a free service to OAB members.
For questions or clarifications regarding EEO rules, members can contact the OAB FCC Hotline.
