Ohio radio and TV stations can play a critical role in the safe recovery of missing children and adults through the state's AMBER Alert Plan, the Endangered Missing Child Alert, and the Missing Adult Alert. The three alerts are issued under different criteria when local law enforcement officials believe the media and general public can assist in locating the individual.
AMBER Alerts, for abducted children in immediate danger of serious harm or death, are issued through the Emergency Alert System (EAS). Additional information on AMBER Alerts – including photos of the missing child, updates and cancellation information – is available via email, text message or fax. All information regarding Endangered Missing Child and Missing Adult Alerts is distributed via email, text message or fax. EAS is NOT used for Endangered Missing Child and Missing Adult Alerts.
In order to receive this emailed, faxed, or text message information, stations must register with the Ohio Attorney General's Ohio Missing Children's Clearinghouse at 1-800-325-5604. Stations can also register online through the form below. If you have questions, or need more information about any of these alert programs, please contact the OAB at 866-OAB-5794.
Note: Stations using email to receive the alerts may wish to create a distribution group or list. This way the alerts come to a single station email address before being routed to all station personel on the distribution list. This option gives stations control over who receives the emailed alerts.
